Breaking Habits

….How can we who died to sin still live in it? (Romans 6:2 CSB)

Habits are hard to break.

No matter what you do on a regular basis that ends up being repetitive in your life you can be assured that you have formed a habit. For good or ill, these things tend to rule our lives.

Thus, when we come to the saving grace of Christ, while we are born anew our old habits have to be broken. And much like watching someone try to break a strong willed pony, we often jump and buck our way through life.

Additionally, our enemy will dangle the carrot of willful sin in front of us on a daily basis making us desire our old life.

But how can we? When we know what Christ has done for us, how can we go on in willful sin? How can we knowing that the Spirit now lives within us? God can have no part in sin. Thus, He must turn away when we engage in our old sinful nature. He does not leave us, but he cannot be apart and we want God in every part of our lives.

Search yourself today and consider what habit you continue to indulge that must be broken.
