Conclusion of the Matter

12 But beyond these, my son, be warned: there is no end to the making of many books, and much study wearies the body.13 When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: fear God and keep his commands, because this is for all[a]humanity. (Ecclesiastes 12:12-13 CSB)

I find myself getting weary from reading too much, do you?

Not from reading scripture or other studies too much, but just reading the news and social media. Truly, it just wears me out now.

Consider when this scripture was written. At a time when books were typically for the wealthy and the majority of knowledge was taught directly, not necessarily from books at all.

Now consider our time when we literally have a worlds worth of information at our fingertips. It can all be quite overwhelming and wearying.

Scripture provides a simple model for acceptance, submission and redemption. The problem is that we may be quick to accept and expect to be redeemed. It is the submission part that is often most difficult.

To submit is to understand the scripture and the proper fear of God. Not to be afraid of Him, but to fear Him properly so that we may improve.

That access to so much can cause us to stumble and be lead down wrong paths. Thus, we must realize that there is no end to what is being written and focus upon that which holds true value for us to consume.
