8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil.” (Job 1:8 CSB)
Job was a man of strength, faith and integrity. Thus, the Lord was proud of the man Job had become and his faithfulness.
But we may wonder why the Lord would then allow such catastrophe to befall Job. But we must be careful here and heed what happens later in this book of the Bible when Job does not sin but expectantly questions what has happened to him. The Lord then puts Job in his place.
But what of us? What do you think would be said if the Lord said “Have you considered my servant…”?
Well, I for one shudder at the thought. I fear what is in that consideration. Yes, I know that beyond it I am forgiven of all my sins. But I do not think I would want to bear the burden of such close scrutiny.
Yet, we do so every day. We are on display for all to see. We may think we have things hidden carefully away, from God and from others. But we are far more transparent than we realize.
Have you considered?
