Empty Ways

18 For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb. (1 Peter 1:18-19 CSB)

I have spoken recently about how scripture can be blunt and to the point. I also love how eloquent scripture can be.

Our scripture provides a very eloquent way of summing up life prior to our redemption.

Empty.

You may not feel this way with all of our comings and goings, the things we have or relationships we have fostered. But more often than not you still see people searching for something more. They often end up at some point asking the age old question, “is this all there is?”

The answer to that question is, no. There is much, much more.

That hole you feeling in your life is perfectly God shaped. And when we do not fill it, our lives have an empty space. Our ways are empty.

Furthermore, when we hold out portions of our lives from God, they too become empty. We cannot do faith partially. It is all or none. Otherwise our ways are empty and we feel a gnawing void.

But when we surrender every part of our selves and our lives to God our empty ways are suddenly filled.
