Sow a Bountiful Year

6 The point is this:[a] The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Corinthians 9:6 CSB)

While reading another devotional this morning (Daily Hope with Rick Warren), he spoke of sowing and reaping which made me think about the year ahead.

We can often fall into the trap of reading today’s scripture and think that it applies to our financial giving only. However, it is much broader than that.

How we sow in every aspect of our lives is reflected in this scripture. From how kind and loving we are to how much effort we put into our families and occupations. And, of course, how much effort we put behind our faith and working toward God’s plan.

If you want to sow a bountiful year, you must invest much into the aspects you desire return on. Thus, if you sow sparing you will reap sparingly. None of us wants this. However, we cannot expect to get much from nothing.

This can feel overwhelming, but God does not seek to overwhelm us. No, we may start small by being more friendly and loving to all those around us and build from there.
