7 Be silent before the Lord and wait expectantly for him;
do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way,
by the person who carries out evil plans. (Psalm 37:7 CSB)
In our “get it now” society it can be very hard to wait. We believe that we need everything right now and nothing should stand in the way of getting what we want.
But expectant waiting makes the obtaining that much better. If all we do is get what we want immediately, where is the anticipation? Where is the thought process that works us through immediate desire to determine actual need.
We may see those around us getting everything right now or prospering when we are struggling. This too can be hard to manage. We wonder when our ship will come in, when will our time come? We may eve become depressed because of unmet expectations.
We may need to wait expectantly upon the Lord so that some aspect of our Christian character is built. Some aspect of repetitive sin is dealt with. We may have to watch others succeed while we fail as we wait expectantly upon the Lord.
