One Man

16 “But I will be with you,” the Lord said to him. “You will strike Midian down as if it were one man.” (Judges 6:16 CSB)

Have you ever felt that you were alone in some form of struggle or fight in your life?

Sometimes God wants us alone so that He can show clearly the might of his hand in our lives. I have written about how the battle is not our own, but God’s to fight. Thus, when we stay on God’s path for our lives and are doing His will, we may find that God wants to show us, and others, two things.

That He will fight for us and that His strength is sufficient. In this way He displays to us and through us His glory so that we know and others know His sovereignty.

Our job is to point the way to God if he chooses to show others His power “as if it were one man”, Meaning that we did not do it in our own power, but through the power of Christ in us.

God can do great things through one man (or woman). But we must stand with integrity in His grace and give glory for the battle to God. In this way he shows us too that it is not a multitude we face, often it is only one man, and too often that one man is us.
