15 He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15 CSB)
For most of us, if we never made another material purchase (I am talking want not need) we would have more than enough stuff to hold us until Christ returns.
Consider this; Most of us have closets overflowing with clothes. Maybe we have an attic, basement or shed. Each of these places tend to accumulate….things. If you have not touched it in six months (outside of seasonal clothing or the occasional tool), you probably do not need it.
Our lives are not in the abundance of our possessions.
We cannot take any of them with us when we go. They all simply become something for the family to get rid of in an estate sale. In fact if you have been to one of these you can look around you and see the trappings of another’s life.
Lastly, how much is our abundance weighing us down? How much are we burdened in some way with all that we own?
Life is best lived lightly.
