17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that I might fully preach the word and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. (2 Timothy 4:17 CSB)
In today’s passage Paul was in prison and facing a sure death. Thus, his words were hopeful but more rearward facing. He was recounting what God had done even though he knew what was about to happen.
In the face of unsure circumstances it is hard to see beyond the moment. To look forward may seem impossible based upon where we are right now. However, we can always look back to all of the things God has seen us through.
But, you may have just come to Christ and be looking back over a difficult life. Even then, when we were already known by God as one set aside He was working in our lives. If we look deep enough and we consider that we are still alive to have the thought it just may be that we can see the path of our deliverance.
We may well see that we have been rescued from the lion’s mouth more than once.
