I have witnessed this many times, especially in business. For many reasons a business will stop listening to the people who have been there the longest. They will bring in “new blood” to try to make things right. Often these people say the same things as those who have been there a long time just in a different way, with a different spin. Suddenly they have all the answers when the rank and staff just stand around dumbfounded at what is happening.

This is why God gave us two ears and one mouth. To listen twice as much as we speak. Especially to those with institutional knowledge or those with a bit more time on this earth than we might have. It is not that ever word that is uttered by our elders or those with tenure are golden, but that maybe just maybe, they have more wisdom than we realize.

Look for wisdom in the words first before discounting those who have been around.
