17 pray constantly, 18 give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 CSB)
How do you approach prayer?
Are you looking to rub the God genie lamp and get your wishes granted? Are you seeking forgiveness for the sin you will commit again and again because you believe your salvation is sure. Are you looking for intercession in events of your own making?
I am being harsh here because I have prayed all those prayers myself.
But God is looking for something more in this scripture. He is looking for our companionship. No, he does not need it, but he wants it. And we are the ones who need it. Praying constantly seems daunting, until we think of prayer as talking to our closest friend. The one who simply knows us and understands our needs even before we voice them.
Continual prayer is a state of mind.
