9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your[a] Creator. (Colossians 3:9-10 CSB)
Now is a time of year for resolution and renewal. A time to make sure we have put off the old self and put on the new self.
But what happens a few weeks in?
The old self begins to creep back in. We fall back onto the well worn patters of our old life, our comfortable life, and we quickly stop working on the new self.
And this is a yearly cycle why? Because we have grown accustomed to the old self, the old habits. They are familiar and easy. Change is hard. Especially when we look at change as a fixed point in time.
Change must be taken up as a daily habit which must replace our old daily habits. To do something habitually is to do it reguarly. Thus, why would we think that making one day of change will change a life of habits.
We create the new self by habitually working on the old self.
