26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Matthew 8:26 CSB)
Faith is a fickle thing to man but a solid thing to God.
Our faith tends to wax and wane with our circumstances. It is as if it is a thing apart from the rest of our lives. A nebulous thing that we grasp for but seems to slip through our hands.
If so, we do not well grasp faith. We grow in our strength of faith through maturity in the Spirit. It is both a wisdom gained through study of scripture but a reliance that builds from our experiences in life. As we begin to understand the saving grace of Christ and the guiding hand of the Spirit, we begin to understand better our relationship to a loving God.
Unfortunately, strength in faith most often grows in adversity. Blessed is the man who’s faith grows in good times. Regardless, we must work out our faith through our experiences and our growing knowledge of the Word.
