13 But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception. (Hebrews 3:13 CSB)
While it is still called today.
This seems an odd notation in this sentence until you really think about it. How often we put off what we should do today because of excuses, procrastination or simple stubbornness. This is not a good thing when it comes to what we should be doing in our family, health or work lives. But it is a terrible think in our spiritual lives.
This scripture calls us to encourage one another and not to put off changes in our lives that might harden our hearts to sin. It can seem such a simple thing that we allow certain sins to continue in our lives. We justify our actions and continue on doing what we know we should not.
But God calls us to task. He says change while today is still today, essentially, while we still have today. Do not wait till tomorrow because we have no idea what tomorrow might bring. We may never see tomorrow. That we are not guaranteed.
Thus, let us not put off till tomorrow what we can so aptly do today.
