2 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:1-2 CSB)
I work very hard at not being political. I have strong opinions about what goes on in our nation, but I keep them to myself. Because regardless of my (or your) opinion, God’s opinion is what matters. And he gave us scripture like this to know what we must do; pray for those in authority.
Even throughout my career I have continually prayed for those in leadership at the comapanies where I work. I may not agree with them 100% of the time – maybe not 20% of the time – but they are there for a reason that is not for me to question.
Many may see this as “sticking my head in the sand” or worse but I let God sort out the things I have limited power to change. And where I do have the power to have a vote for change, I make it based upon prayer. This is to say I try to take my highly failabe personal feelings out of the matter.
Pray for our leaders and those in authority…even when it hurts.
