Jealousy & Envy

7 As they danced, the women sang:

Saul has killed his thousands,
but David his tens of thousands.
8 Saul was furious and resented this song.[a] “They credited tens of thousands to David,” he complained, “but they only credited me with thousands. What more can he have but the kingdom?” 9 So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward. (1 Samuel 18:7-9 CSB)

Jealously and envy are twins of a mother that can make the best of us spiteful. They are feelings driven more from sense of what is happening than from the reality of what truly might be.

Releasing the emotions that accompany can lead to us doing things we would never imagine. To turn away from friends, to destroy relationships, to ruin business dealings.

And for what?

So we can feel better about ourselves.

Should we not first question what might be lacking in us rather what might be truly happening for another?

This takes a humble heart and a captive mind, and no small amount of the Spirit’s guidance.
