Turn the other Cheek

27 “But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If anyone hits you on the cheek, offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat, don’t hold back your shirt either. (Luke 6:27-29 CSB)

I will freely admit that I struggle with this verse. I understand that an eye for an eye leaves a world full of blind men. I accept that God wants us to treat others the way we want to be treated. I want to be a humble and gentle man, I truly do.

But God built in me a warrior’s spirit. I am not the wolf, nor am I the lamb. I am truly one of the sheepdogs and I have a strong sense of justice and honor.

However, I accept God’s sovereignty and know that if I am being mistreated in some way there must be a higher reason. Lord I try, I truly do, to be a man of peace and I work to always treat others with respect.

Lord I ask you continue to build within me a humble spirit.
