21 Then Peter approached him and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? As many as seven times?”
22 “I tell you, not as many as seven,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven. (Matthew 18:21-22 CSB)
It is said, “To forgive is divine.” And this is true. But we are given the ability and right to forgive others as well. We are not told to do so seven times but seventy times seven. Effectively, Jesus is saying, continue to forgive. Not putting a limit on forgiveness.
We have been forgiven thus we should forgive.
This may not be easy when we feel we have been unjustly wronged. But this is what we are taught to do. Because if we do not forgive how can we expect to be forgiven.
