Sunday Reflection: Good Morning Jesus

I heard a really good story the other day about a woman far from God who ask her brother, a priest, how she could begin the journey back to Him. His simple advice was to wake each morning and say, “Good morning, Jesus.”

8 Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You. (Psalm 143:8 NKJV)

I have not necessarily been feeling distant from God of late, but after hearing the above story I thought it might be a good practice to begin. Except, like I normally do, I took and adapted it a bit. I wake now and say, “Good morning Jesus, good morning Father and good morning Holy Spirit.” I am sure that the priest advice is sound, but in my life I want to bring into mind our triune God.

Life can be a complicated mess. Scripture can feel confusing and hard to understand, but God desires a simple relationship with each of us. He is not looking for Biblical scholars to converse with, He is looking for simple people who are capable of being guided and willing to humble themselves before Him.

To begin our mornings, as our scripture says, “lifting up my soul to You, God” begins it in the right place. It sets our mind on the right things and starts us with a heavenly focus. I think this is a good place to start wishing God good morning. I may add a brief prayer thanking Him for the new day and seeing me through another night. For now, Good Morning is enough.

Reflect on: How you begin your day. Do you have some ritual or habit that brings your mind first to God.
