Delighting in the Word

1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he [b]meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the [c]rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV)

Do you look to scripture as something that is keenly valuable in your life? The Psalms are something that I typically read daily. In fact, if you want clear instruction on life spend time regularly in Psalms and Proverbs. These two books are pivotal in our growth studying scripture. I typically read passages from the New Testament and the old every morning and have done so for years. I do truly delight in reading and meditating on God’s Word.

As you spend more time in them, the last verse truly springs to life. Like a tree planted by a river being fed by the Word brings forth fruit, keeps us well fed and healthy and helps us to prosper in living out those words. The wellspring of the heart, mind and soul are nurtured and what springs forth is a God inspired life.

Reflect on: Just how scripture works in your life. Do you understand its value and base your life on its teaching?
