Draw Near to God

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:7-8 NKJV)

James is one of my favorite books of the Bible. There is so much contained in this short chapter that it can become a long study to get every nugget from the verses. Ours today is pivotal, providing a direct recipe on drawing near to God so that our enemy will flee from us.

There is no doubt that the enemy is continually seeing to steal, kill and destroy us. This is his main goal. We do not have the power to resist him of our own accord. This is why being near to God is so important. We are a double-minded creature who’s bent is toward things of this world. It is imperative that we are constantly striving to cleanse and purify our hearts. But this can only be done through God, as we are but dirty rags.

Fighting the enemy has to begin by bending a knee. We want him to think we are beaten, on our knees for he will flee the moment we say amen.

Reflect on: Your daily battle with the enemy and how you draw near to God daily.
