3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (1 John 3:3 NKJV)
While we cannot hope to be pure, we must look upon our lives and do what we can live a life of purity.
We all desire to live good lives, but putting the word “pure” in there may seem impossible. Not that we are out wantonly doing impure things, but it just seems to raise the bar too high. But if the bar is not high, how can we truly compete for the prize?
I use competition language even though we know that we cannot compete for our salvation. That can only come through Jesus. However, we do need to look upon life somewhat as a competition, not in the sense that we are competing against one another or to justify our salvation. No, we are to compete so that we might show that we understand that life is a race toward heaven. The competition with with ourselves and trying to live the best life we can live.
We are striving against our own nature and fighting against sin daily.
Reflect on: How you work out your purity daily.
