7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. (Matthew 6:7-8 NKJV)
In another OCD pleasing book and scripture number grouping, we have today’s scripture on prayer and how the Father knows us. The Lord knows our every need before we ask. So why then is there such an emphasis on prayer. Prayer is our connection to the Father. It provides the intimacy both that He desires and we need. This is why our prayers need to be a simple conversation. They do not need to be something elaborate with a lot of King James Version language. The Father just desires that we come to Him and talk to Him about what He already knows.
This too is why the scripture calls for no vain repetitions. It is speaking specifically about those who like to hear themselves pray in public. They want the world to witness their piety in the words they lift up to the Father when He is only looking for a sincere heart and simple words.
Reflect on: The words you speak to the Father, are you speaking your heart?
