7 Two things I request of You
(Deprive me not before I die):
8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give me neither poverty nor riches—
Feed me with the food allotted to me; (Proverbs 30:7-8 NKJV)
Part of my pastor’s sermon yesterday touched on a passage I had underlined in my Bible long ago. I think that this is a good passage for us to pray, but many will not because they want more out of life. I am at a point in life where I can more easily pray this prayer, this is true. But I still think it is a good basis for life.
Remove falsehood and lies far from me. I believe most people strive to live a truthful and honest life. I guess that I expect the best in people. I have always had a rule of thumb that I lived by with those I surround myself with; I give 100% trust, you can only lose it, but it is hard to win back. I try to give 100% trust back to those around me as well. Living an honest life and trustworthy life is important to me.
Give me neither poverty nor riches – Feed me with the food allotted to me. This is the part of the scripture that can become more difficult to pray, because we all want more out of life that what we are allotted. But consider this; wealth comes and goes, if you could be guaranteed that you would have enough throughout your life, wouldn’t that be better? I know it seems like settling, but there would be great safety and security in this prayer.
Reflect on: What you want to get out of life and what you put into your faith life. How do they reconcile?
