Doctrine Which You Learned

17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. (Romans 16:17 NKJV)

God’s Word is the doctrine we live by. It too is a tool for testing the validity of things others say. Ultimately, when we have studied the scriptures long enough the Word needs to be so active in our lives that it is a filter for everything we see and hear. It too becomes the rule by which we live.

This does not make us better than others, it simply provides the structure God intended for our lives. It too can be the litmus test by which we filter all we hear from others. It will clearly show us who and what causes divisions and offenses. It is then up to us to bring a voice of reason and the love of God to each person and each situation.

Lastly, that doctrine we learn through the study of scripture and prayers for wisdom will help us avoid situations a people who are contrary. We do need to be the voice of reason and a pathway to God, but He may lead us to avoid certain people and situations.

Reflect on: How the Word has structured your life and how it continues to do so.
