We Are A Font of Living Water

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38 NKJV)

A font is not just an electronic type face but is also a spring of water. We, as believers, are fonts of Living Water which flows from Christ within us.

The symbolism Jesus used here is one we should really consider and take to heart. If we have Jesus within us, then what springs forth should be from the Spirit. This means that we must suppress our human nature and take on the divine. We will not always be perfect at this, but it means that we strive to have our words and actions in line with scripture and Jesus life.

The “thirst” that Jesus is speaking of in our scripture is the well of wisdom and forgiveness that wells up within us when we believe. When Jesus takes up residence our old stagnant pool of humanness gets replaced with a fresh wellspring of holiness. No, we are not sinless at this point, but He is pointing toward a time when we will be with Him in heaven and will be.

Reflect on: The living water within and how it flows forth from you.
