Draw Nearer

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8 NKJV)

This is possibly one of my favorite verses from scripture. I have experienced both God’s closeness and His seeming distance. I have learned His seeming distance is most often a byproduct of me being distant and not doing the things take keep me close to the Father.

Every moment of every day we choose to either be close or distant from God. He is always there in the form of the Spirit that resides within once we come to belief in Christ. Thus, it is really only us who creates that feeling of distance from the Father.

When I get up each morning I have a deep desire to sit down with a cup of coffee and scripture. Yes, it has become a habit, much like writing these devotional each day. Both draw me closer to God at the beginning of my day, helping to assure that I at least start the day with being near Him. Then, throughout the day, I try to make a point of coming back to my Bible and taking moments to draw nearer.

Reflect on: How, throughout your day, you draw nearer to the Father.
