6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak; (Ecclesiastes 3:6-7 NKJV)
Thinking more about the New Year, I am brought back to Ecclesiastes. Especially these two verses in chapter 3. During the holidays and some time off from work I have been cleaning out a lot of my spaces in our home. Especially the garage and our shed. These places tend to accumulate the overflow. It is clear that we have gained and kept a lot of things, but now is a time to lose and throw away.
Also, as I wrote yesterday, now is a time for me for silence. We have had family with us much of the holidays, today is a wrap up of that with a 90th birthday for my wife’s mother. Sunday will be a day of silence and reflection for me, truthfully, the single day over the last two weeks I will really have concerted time alone. I love my family, but I look forward to a day of quiet too. I want to reflect too on this next year and my times for silence and times to speak.
Reflect on: The time you are in and how you need to reflect on these passages from Ecclesiastes and what time this is for you.
