19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. (John 3:19-20 ESV)
Jesus came to this world to save it, to save you. This is why Christmas is such a celebration for the Christian faith. It is a time of great joy for what God did for us by sending His one and only son. Yes, Santa plays a part, but Jesus is the reason for the season.
It seems to me that it would be very hard to love the darkness rather than the light this time of year. The festivity, bright Christmas lights, colorful wrapping paper, how does one remain in the darkness during this season? But scripture tells us that people love the darkness and I believe what scripture says. Now, however, more than any other time, seems to be a moment when even those who love the darkness eyes should be open to the light. Maybe they just need a kind word from us to begin to wonder if there isn’t a better way.
Reflect on: How you might brighten another’s life with a kind word this season and maybe open a path for Jesus love and bring a little light to their world.
