25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:25 ESV)
This passage comes from the scriptural story about the rich, young ruler. He was so owned by his possessions that he could not make a total sacrifice to be a part of something far bigger.
What owns you? Is it your wealth? Is it time? Is it material things, possessions?
It is very sobering to look at all we have and think that God may ask us to give it all away. We start bartering with God about our needs. We do this to the Lord of all Creation, who knows every hair upon our head. Who clothes the fields in splendor. No, who we are negotiating with is ourselves. We are thinking about creature comforts and what we cling dearly to in this life. You will be buried with none of them. End of story.
Reflect on: What might just own you. What you find yourself negotiating with God about.
