13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13 ESV)
Yesterday we looked at discretion, we walked through a long passage that gives us many clues to how God provides discretion. Today we want to look at discernment.
All of the practical experience in the world may not provide everything we need to suss out some aspects of life. The beauty of our God is that He gave us the Spirit when we came to believe in His son. The Spirit can help us move from discretion to discernment. He is the one who can open our spiritual eyes to the truth of our lives. He begins with showing us what is internal and then expands to help us with the external.
When we then become mature in our faith we can begin to link the truth of scripture, with power of prayer and the discernment of the Spirit. These three things can be very powerful in our lives. While each is of great value on its own, all three make for a truly strong faith life and great comfort in God.
Reflect on: How you put scripture, prayer and the Spirit into practice in your life.
