Metamorphosis

16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self[a] is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ESV)

Think about the lowly caterpillar that goes through a metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly. The struggle of crawling along the ground then being in a cocoon gives way to the ability to fly. We should look at our faith life in a similar way.

Each of us is going through a metamorphosis that will only fully manifest when we arrive in heaven. The inner self is being renewed day by day and will one day soar on heavenly wings. No, I do not think that we will actually have wings in heaven, but I do believe that our movement will not be fettered by all that drags us down on this earth. Both mentally and physically there will be nothing holding us back any longer.

This is why we must as our scripture says not look to the light momentary afflictions of today but to the eternal things of tomorrow.

Reflect on: How you see life and how you see heaven. Even if our years are long here our years there will be vastly longer.
