2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled,
my steps had nearly slipped.
3 For I was envious of the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
5 They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not stricken like the rest of mankind. (Psalm 73:2-5 ESV)
We had a pastor filling in this weekend for our wonderful typical pastor. His sermon was on Psalm 75, which I think hits close for many today and I thought I would do a series this week on this chapter.
It is very easy to fall into the trap of looking outward and seeing how everyone else is doing. Whether it is looking on social media and comparing our mundane lives with the seemingly exciting lives others lead. Or, it is looking at those who do not honor God but who seem to be getting everything life has to offer. It is easy to find ourselves envious of others.
We cannot let ourselves stumble when we see these things. In many ways, as we will see this week, the wonderful lives others lead may not be everything that they reflect or project. As I have mentioned often before, I have known many a wealthy person who continually asked “is this all there is?”.
Reflect on: The fact that we hold ourselves to a different standard. Just because we may not have everything we want, does not mean God has not given us everything we need.
