Make a Defense

15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (1 Peter 3:15 ESV)

Do you feel prepared make a defense of your faith? It is true, many do not. Many more simply do not desire to debate their faith at all. But this is something we are all called to do and, more and more, we are being called on to be able to do.

If you feel ill prepared there is a simple remedy; read your Bible. Spend time with the scriptures. A New Testament with the Psalms and Proverbs, travels with me pretty much everywhere I go. I also carry cards that present the four laws. Just the other day someone asked me about it. I was provided the opportunity to speak of my faith and why I took it everywhere.

Furthermore, I need it! I need it to bolster my faith often throughout my days. To turn to when I am feeling anxious, angry or tempted. It is a comfort to have it near me all the time. Some may call it a crutch, and to them I say, “Amen, it is, Glory to God!”

Reflect on: A ready defense and the tools you keep at hand to provide it.
