16 Whoever keeps the commandment keeps his life;
    he who despises his ways will die. (Proverbs 19:16 ESV)

The commandments have been hotly debated and in many cases removed from public places. This trend seems to have stemmed a bit, but in many ways the damage has been done. America was headed down a very similar path as many other nations, and is still in jeopardy of doing so. We have been losing our identity as One Nation Under God.

This trend should be a fearful one for us. As our scripture teaches us today, he who keeps the commandments keeps his life, but he who despises his ways will die. The interesting part of this scripture is the last note of “his ways”. Yes, this refers to the God, the scriptures and the commandments. But more so, it also recognizes a person, people group or nation whose ways were set upon God going astray.

We have seen this payed out since Jesus’ time with the Jewish people, and we are now seeing it payed out with the American people. We must not lose our way or our identity. We cannot be afraid to stand for our beliefs.
