13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant[a] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. (John 13:13-16 ESV)
We all have different roles in life. Be it in business or in our family life, each of us holds a different state or stature. Some are leaders, but all are followers in some sense. No matter how lofty a role you may hold in either sense, we are still subservient to someone. Even presidents answers to God and man, whether they acknowledge it or not.
When we embrace the servants role we become more like Jesus. He washed the disciples feet and encouraged that they do the same. He did this as a display of how He honored them, but also to prove the point that we all must be servants in our faith life, it is what brings a humble joy and peace to our lives. The best leaders I have ever had the experience to work for were, themselves, great servants.
Reflect on: Your roles in life. Are you honoring and showing respect to others through your servant actions?
