12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate.
14 I have counsel and sound wisdom;
I have insight; I have strength. (Proverbs 8:12-14 ESV)
There is simply so much in scripture for us to plumb so that we live a life that is pleasing to God. To say that we do not know the way He wants us to live is to deny the wisdom of scripture. Thus, I do not understand how some rarely read their Bibles. Truly, this is the reason so many cannot seem to understand the simple precepts of life to live by.
Often, as our scripture points out, this is due to pride and arrogance. People do not read to understand the scriptures because they are prideful and arrogant. They think that they know enough to get by on their own and consider what the world teaches them as good enough for a life well lived.
As our scripture points out, the Lord and the scripture is where we obtain our counsel, sound wisdom, insight and strength.
Reflect on: All aspects of today’s scripture and where you obtain your counsel and sound wisdom.
