10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:10-12 ESV)
God’s message to us is so simple. He sent His son. His son died for our sins. We have only to accept this free gift of salvation.
So, why then, do we complicate the message so much?
Or maybe more so, why do we not believe that once we have the Son we are assured of our salvation?
Well, mainly because we are human. That, and our enemy is the father of lies who prowls around seeking to steal, kill and destroy. Let that last sink in. I am sure you have heard it before, but he wants nothing more than for you to question and complicate God’s simple message of salvation and eternal forgiveness.
Look, there is nothing he can do other than to deceive you and make you question. And there is nothing you can do to make a way to God without the Son. So everything in this spiritual relationship is dependent upon God. Our job is to stay close to Him, listen to His teachings through scripture and pray for deliverance from the enemy. Accept the simplicity of God’s plan, don’t make it harder than it has to be.
Reflect on: Are you overly complicating your relationship with God? He just wants a personal relationship marked by good fruit.
