1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord. (Psalm 40:1-3 ESV)
Psalm 40 has been a favorite of mine for a long time. It became even more so a favorite after U2 produced “40” based on it.
I especially think these first three verses sums up what our life in Christ should be. When we wait patiently upon the Lord, He can be trusted to hear our cries. It may not be in our timing, but He too will lift us up from our despair and setting our feat on solid ground, makes our steps secure. Then, if we are true to Him, He will put a song of praise in our mouth. This song should be our desire to tell others of Christ saving grace and mercy, so that they too can put their trust in the Lord.
Reflect on: How is Christ working in your life and how then are you extending that work to others?
