14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. (Romans 13:14 ESV)
Let’s face the truth, we make many provisions for the flesh. Whether it is through some form of lust, gluttony or greater creature comforts, the flesh wants what the flesh wants.
Only when we can harness our senses and then our mind can we harness the flesh. Many things of the flesh start first with a temptation of the senses. These temptations then move from something that triggers us to thoughts of what we will do with that temptation. It is at this point where we must seek God and turn from those thoughts. Our senses may be triggered only shortly, but the mind that dwells upon the temptation will act upon it.
We most often consider lust to be focused upon the sensual or sexual. However, lust takes many forms and can create many different problems for us. Call it want if lust is too strong a word for you. Consider your wants, not your needs, but your wanting desires. It is here you will find yourself making provisions to gratify your desires.
Do not feel like you are alone. We all experience desires in our walk. We must simply and confidently make no provision for them.
