God Waits

18 Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you,
    and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
    blessed are all those who wait for him. (Isaiah 30:18 ESV)

It is good that God does not act quickly or rashly. If He did, we could only imagine the outcome for mankind.

No, the Lord waits to be gracious to you and I and that is a very, very good thing. Even those who come to faith early, God is waiting on to mature so that they may be of full use to Him. And those that come to faith late He waits patiently on so that there is time for them to see the error of their ways and come to salvation.

Yes, our God is gracious and patient, for we do not want to experience His full justice when we are not under Christ saving grace.

Also, our scripture today points out that those who wait for Him are also blessed. For those who wait patient upon the Lord may go through long periods of difficulty, but God is storing up many more blessings for when He comes. These things we cannot know now, but we will know fully when we reach our reward.

In all these things God is exalting Himself through us.
