21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:21-22 ESV)
Are we, at times, like the rich young man?
Before you pass off my question, think about it for a moment. Have you turned God away at points in your life where the sacrifice just seemed too much? Maybe He was asking for a change you just were not ready to make. I know I have done this and maybe you have as well.
While not our best decisions, God is a loving god who will provide ample opportunity to serve Him. However, these opportunities often come with a change in our lives or may require us to leave our comfort zone. I have found that God does not deal in comfort zones. In fact He will most likely ask you to do something that is firmly outside of this personal life parameter.
If all we do is turn away sorrowfully we will never experience the fullness of life God has planned for us. Yes, the path may not be easy and it may not be comfortable, but you can rest assured it will be fulfilling. But it may require a great sacrifice first.
