Unpardonable

31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. (Matthew 12:31 ESV)

This scripture can really cause angst in people’s lives. But if it is, then you have a pretty good bet that you have not committed this sin.

You see, the unpardonable sin is the rejection of Jesus Christ. It is unpardonable because one hardens their heart against God and refuses to accept Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Just the act of being concerned means your heart is not hardened.

The scriptures are very clear that we are not to go on sinning, we are to live a new life. We pray to God for those sins that seem to resurface in our lives and ask Him to help us in our weakness. The fact that you are always striving to be better shows the growth of faith in your life. Even when we feel like we are in no way worthy, Christ makes us worthy. Because the fact is that we are not worthy, we are as dirty rags.

If we think about the gap between a completely holy God and ourselves we can easily see that we need Christ cleansing blood. Without it we could never span that gap no matter how hard we tried or how good we were.

So we must go forth and work to be better people for sure. Work to stop giving into our sinful ways. But always look toward the hope Christ provided in His free gift of salvation.
