Steadfast Love

22 What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
and a poor man is better than a liar. (Proverbs 19:22 ESV)

Have you ever considered the many ways that scripture points out the potential evils of wealth? It is not that God wants us to all be poor. However, He knows what money can do to a person and we have so much evidence of this in our society.

But wealth is only a gateway to the problem. Much like when people begin with a drug that is meant for good, but become addicted to a greater and greater need for more. The enemy creates many gateways to allow our sinful nature to grow into overwhelming desire.

But our scripture provides some insight into how to avoid this too. “What is desired in a man is steadfast love.” God knows that if we have a steadfast love for His ways that no matter how tempting the gateway may be, we will not walk through it. Our love will overcome our desire and we will focus upon God’s pure love for us. This simple shift in thinking can help us avoid so many of the worlds pitfalls. God’s love, and ours, is a balm for many ills.
