2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,[a]
who seek after God. (Psalm 14:2 ESV)
Any who understand, who seek after God.
I often wonder when reading a scripture like this one what God is thinking just now, today. But the next line of scripture tells us what He finds when he looks down upon mankind.
3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
This should be a sobering thought to us today. Scripture was written over 3000 years ago and yet we find it as true today as back then. The difference is that then God was not looking through eight billion people. No, the number was much smaller. So it could be said that this scripture is a harsher reality today than it was back then.
But in it resides the call to living better: “Any who understand, who seek after God.”
We must seek after God to understand. We need to be spending more and more time poring over scripture and gleaning the wisdom contained within. The wisdom God put forth and seeking to not just understand it, but to live it.
