Wake Up!

So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. (1 Thessalonians 5:6 ESV)

I am tired this morning. Now, I did not sleep well and that has an effect to be sure. But as I roll into my day, I need to make sure that I am fully awake.

Do you ever struggle with this? I expect we all do from time to time. However, what Paul was referring to was a different kind of sleepy. He was talking about being asleep, or not sober, in our faith life. He knew that we need to be awake and alive in the Spirit. If we are not, then we may miss divine callings that come to us throughout our days or we may struggle against the enemies slings and arrows.

As I sip my first cup of liquid awake, I want to prepare for my day and ready myself for what may come. Be that in a spiritual, mental or physical sense. We cannot walk into our day knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt what we may face. Thus, we need to get up, get our body moving, get our mind active and face the day, but do so first by conferring with our Father. He too, through the Spirit, will be with us throughout our day. We must keep ever mindful of this, asking for His guidance in all things.
