Baggage

6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! (Psalm 25:6-7 ESV)

Many walk through this world with a lot of baggage. We heap the errors of our past upon our daily stresses and this can make life almost unbearable.

What good is this? Aside from learning from our mistakes, what does carrying this baggage around do for us other than weighing us down?

We need to look at this closely and not just pass the question by lightly because we do not feel it at this moment. The weight of this kind of baggage bears upon us more than we realize even when we are in a happy state and it is a weapon of the enemy. He desires for us to repeat our mistakes and heap more weight upon our already heavy baggage.

There are but three states that exist: past, present and future. We have absolutely no ability to change either the past or the future. We have only the present that we can effect. Even planning for the future is a present activity. We cannot see what tomorrow will bring. In the same way we cannot go back and change the past. We have only the present and it is up to us to make that present the best we can.

Learn from the past, look to the future, but live in the present.
