Sobering Thoughts

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. (Revelations 1:3 ESV)

How near and relevant is the second coming in your life? Have you even considered it in the past days, weeks, months? We tend not to because we are so busy with right now. The return of Christ is not nearly as much of a focus point in our daily lives as it should be.

Yesterday we talked about being vigilant. There is nothing we need to be more vigilant about than the second coming. My father thought it would happen in his lifetime. I do not believe it will happen in mine. However, no man knows the day nor time, so our only course is to be vigilant.

Consider this, what would you hope to be doing when it does happen? What do you do today that you would definitely not want to be doing when it happens? In these two questions lies the basis of how we should be living our lives.

So, while I do not expect Christ to return in my lifetime, I am more and more thoughtful about what I might be doing when my time comes. You see, none of us can count our days. We have no idea when our life will be demanded from us. I think about the many things I do in my day to day life and I desire to think more on what I will be doing when my life is demanded from me. These are sobering thoughts, but thoughts we should consider none the less.
