Part of the Flock

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27 ESV)

I confess, I know nothing about sheep outside of what scripture teaches like our passage today. In fact, I probably see them in more of a negative sense as I believe that many in our culture have become sheepole, easily lead astray. However, God sees us as His flock and we are to follow Him. Of this I am very clear.

Scripture is rife with imagery used to convey messages that people of that time and culture could easily understand. At times it may seem, in our advanced culture, that these are too simplistic, too rudimentary to have meaning. However, scripture is also lost on many who see it as only a collection of stories. Just so much history and fiction put into a format to easily lead people. They do not see it as the inspired word of God.

We must take scripture far more literally and figuratively than we may. The stories teach us moral absolutes and provide valuable insight into fallen man our Heavenly Father, his Son Christ the Savior and our Helper, the Holy Spirit. Each has a function in our lives as does all of scripture. As we approach Advent it is a great time to delve into the scriptural truths around Christ birth, our role in His flock and the Triumvirates role in our lives.
