I Shall Not Want

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.(Psalm 23:1 ESV)

This first verse of the Lord’s Prayer should constitute our entire view of life.

But, boy, we fall short here.

Oh, we want, we desire, we long, we pine, we seek, we strive, we are in an almost perpetual state of trying to squeeze more out of life.

But this first verse should really change how we approach life.

I get that the world conspires to drive us forward in a very different way. It will continually push us toward the next “best”thing. But what might happen to us if we got rid of everything that was a want and only focused on the needs. Well, we should immediately all be the richer for it. We would cease to worry about so many things that keep us stressed out.

You see, aside from the key things that keep us moving in this life, there is really precious little that we really need. No, our lives are consumed with what we want. Taking a different approach is so very difficult. Literally, our entire lives tend to be about striving for more.

What might happen to our lives if we paired it all down to just what we needed….
